What is happening during the 3rd week of pregnancy?
By this time the egg has been released from the ovary and it travels through the fallopian tube, where it can be fertilized if it meets a sperm. Once it is fertilized, it becomes a zygote, starts dividing and travel through the uterus, getting implanted in the lining. This is the moment when you can officially say that you are in your pregnancy week 3.
How does the baby look like during this week?
As it has been mentioned, the zygote starts dividing into hundreds of new cells, at this moment it is known as a blastocyst. Because of the hormones that it releases, your menstruation will stop. This blastocyst will get implanted into your uterus.
The lining of the uterus, which is also known as the endometrium will offer the baby all the nutrients that he or she needs for development. Over the time, the place of implantation will become the placenta that will help the baby develop and it will also protect him or her.
